Ponte de Lima was founded in 1125. It is the oldest village and one of its most beautifully preserved in the county.

Intense flavors and spicy aromas make traditional cuisine of Ponte de Lima special. The complex taste of such different spices as bay leaf, cloves, nutmeg and cumin is one of the main characteristics of Ponte de Lima’s Sarrabulho Rice. Worldly famous, this major gastronomical symbol is always accompanied by pork meat, “belouras”, “farinhotas” and all other kinds of sausages.

While Ponte de Lima’s “cuisine” is appreciated in the four corners of the earth, the Vinho Verde, is recognized as unique in the world. The soil, climate and grape varieties, with emphasis on the laurel caste for white and the Vinhão for the red wine, are well kept secrets that also benefit from the talent and dedication of the people of the region.
